Located in northeast Princeton, the Riverside area offers convenient access to the city center. To the north is Kingston, while to the south is Harrison St. Princeton-Kingston Road forms the western boundary, and Lake Carnegie the eastern.

The Riverside neighborhood is your best bet for finding a lakefront property in Princeton, NJ. Riverside, which is situated next to Carnegie Lake, is widely regarded as one of Princeton’s most aesthetically pleasing communities. Riverside appears to offer it everything, with a wide selection of house types ranging from split levels to lakefront mansions on generous half-acre lots.

The neighborhood of Riverside in Princeton takes its name from the nearby Riverside Elementary School in the city’s East End. The sole waterfront property in town is in this region, which is bounded by Carnegie Lake, Princeton-Kingston Road, and Princeton University.

The neighborhood’s large lots, tall trees, and winding streets have made it quite popular. There is a wide range of housing options, from split-level bungalows to lakefront estates. Also located there are the Sears craftsmen-style houses of the historic Jugtown area.

K-5 students in the area can attend the public Riverside Elementary School. Public education in Princeton is provided by Princeton High School and John Witherspoon Middle School.

Some of the Riverside neighborhood is within walking distance of the downtown area. Those hills are more of a climb. The Riverside neighborhood features a wide variety of architectural types, including ranch homes, split levels, contemporary homes, and colonial homes.The proximity to Carnegie lake, downtown Princeton restaurants, theatres and shopping stores make Riverside one of Princeton’s favorite residential districts.

Lake Carnegie is a man-made lake on Princeton University property that was created for and is still used by the Princeton University Crew Team. Across the water is the Delaware and Raritan Canal and the associated towpath. Many of the properties have a view of one of New Jersey’s most beautiful lakes, Carnegie Lake, and may enjoy the changing of the seasons against this backdrop. In the coldest of winters, you can even ice skate on the lake!

The Riverside neighborhood is close enough that many primary school students may walk to class. Between 275 and 350 students enroll in Riverside Elementary School each year.  Not only do Riverside School’s kids excel academically, but the school’s enormous, fruitful garden is also outstanding. Any prospective Princeton homeowner would do well to consider the Riverside neighborhood.
